This book is great... once you get about a third of the way in. It took me several starts to finally really get into the book. The first few chapters felt a little like slugging through the mud and muck. It's important to have the back story information, but I felt like I needed to make a list several times of the characters and how they related, just so I could grasp what was happening. That being said, the story starts to pick up and things start to flow much easier. It's worth pushing through the first bit, to get to the actual story.

So here's my run down of the story, It's the late 1800's and high English society is on the move. Julia is the protagonist here. She comes from parents that chose love, instead of titles. That being said tragedy struck and she now has to live with her Aunt and cousins and conform to their English court life. During the summer the high society folk travel around the different estates to visit and be seen. They group is invited to Dunraven Castle, which is the estate the story revolves around. (this is the part that drags and takes some patients to get through) The train ride, carriage ride, and arrival to the castle allow for back story and introduction of several (sometimes overwhelm) characters. Once the group arrive at the castle things start to pick up and the story really starts taking shape. A late arrival, full house and an Aunt that insists on making it obvious she doesn't want you around, all add up to Julia being placed in the original castle tower room. Julia finds herself experiencing some strange, unfamiliar, and perhaps paranormal situations in the room including: a naked highlander, disapearing furniture, and color changing bed covers. Rae Mackinnon comes in to the story at this time as the 15th century Highlander, aka the Third Laird of Dunraven. Julia and Rae's love story begins here. The two began seeing each other during "time slips" (when the veil between two different time periods joins) and after a few confusing encounters, an eccentric society of scientist getting involved and of course a love that spans time, Julie and Rea find themselves facing a difficult decision.
Once the story gets to this point, it's difficult to put down. There are a few "love making scenes", which are steamy. I was glad they weren't too detailed. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for such dirty details, maybe it just left more to the imagination? Either way the story goes on and I found myself thinking,"oh come on, it can't end like this!"

All in all it was a great story and I'd recommend it to those that like:
A touch of regency romance
A bigger touch of Highland romance(the reason I got it)
A love story that spans time (time travel romance)
And steamy scens that allow your mind to paint the picture, not spelled out in great detail.

A Slip In Time edition by Kathleen Kirkwood Romance eBooks Reviews

It begins a little bit slow but picks up speed when you reach the castle, so stay with it. This ended up being one of the finest time travel/romance books I've read. Not too technical, VERY believable as to why the time travel was occurring as well as the reason for the increasing/decreasing frequency and length of time that each traveler was able to visit the other century. Being set at a castle in Scotland and seeing how much the castle changed whenever the time change occurred was a great facet to this story. Both the hero and the heroine's characters are very well fleshed out, likable and believable. The speech/thoughts/ideas of the laird from the 1400's feels authentic.
The ending is solid (no cliff hangers here) with some great sudden - and unexpected - twists near the end which make you sit up in surprise! The great ending makes me want to find out if anyone else ever used the stone that had been left behind, to come forward in time in future years. Will have to watch this Author. Her writing is great and her knowledge of ancient Scotland shows through easily enough.
A slip In Time WOW what a great story. I Loved the H?H Laird Rae MacKinnon and Julia Hargrove. The author Kathleen Kirkwood has done a great job in weaving the fantasy tail of time travel.

The story starts off developing the back story of Julia. Her parents have been kill in a drowning accident and her grandmother Lady Arabella Symington has come to collect her and take her to live with her aunts and cousin. Julia aunt Sybil by marriage and her daughter Lilith are very mean and unkind to Julia. Her other aunt Rachel sister to her deceased mother and her daughter Emmaline are passably kind to her. They are all invited by Lord Roger Eaton to Dunraven Castles for a summer party and hunt. There Julia starts to experience a strange phenomena of time slips backward 500 yrs into the past. At first she believes she has gone crazy. Then she meets Rae the 3rd Laird of Dunraven. Rae hasn't been long returned to Dunraven. He has spent the last 16yrs a prisoner in the Tower Of London. On his return his father soon dies, leaving him with a quarrelsome clan and a revengeful brother.

Each time Time Slips Julia and Rae become more and more romantically involved. The times Slips start to last longer and longer. I loved the way the author introduced the scientific society headed up by Lord Muir the Marquis of Duncastle. He and is society member were all in there 70's. The explanation they gave for time travel was plausible. I sort of fell in love with Lord Muir's character. He was the kindly grandfather and friend Julia needed.

This story is very well developed and interesting. It moves at a steady pace and its has a few surprises. I like it when the villains of a story get there just end and these villains got what they deserve. The descriptions of the clothes, furniture and food of the period were brilliant and puts the reader into to each time period in the story. Which goes from 1893 back to 1437 Scotland. The romance with Rae and Julia was well written not overly sensual. It could have stood a little more spicy romance but I enjoyed the relationship building between the two leads characters. I hope there is a sequel to A Slip In Time. The door was left open for that possibility. I Highly Recommend A Slip In Time. Very Well Done!!
