Rocket Romance eBook Sophia Chester

I purchased the book because I have a great fondness for science fiction, and the cover art really piqued my interest.

My feelings are a bit mixed. One on hand, I very much enjoy these characters and I'm thoroughly invested in their stories and the romances they're involved in. However, I do feel a bit...apprehensive to say that the characters are perfectly written. The supporting cast and their actions just seem to be tools to thrust the protagonists into new scenarios rather than them being their own individuals whose lives happen to affect that of the main character.

Rocket Romance's strong point is definitely the world-building. It's created this very unique retro-futurism aesthetic, and the details and technology described within the pages really gets my imagination going enough for me to imagine these things in great detail. And it doesn't try to copy or emulate well-known space stories at ALL, which is a huge plus as that takes away from the identity of a sci-fi story trying to be its own thing. (*cough*Everyone copies Star Wars*cough*)

All in all the stories weren't perfect and the complaint I mentioned earlier made it difficult for me to become deeply invested, but I wouldn't overlook this buy. I definitely enjoyed the journey I took reading Rocket Romance, and I'm sure others will agree.

Rocket Romance eBook Sophia Chester Reviews

I love this author. The way the tales are weaved keeps the reader attentive and rooting for the lead girl! I'm so glad to have read this after Chester's first book and hope to read many many more!!!
I’m not really a book-buff or anything, but I’m a sucker for something cute and romantic. The first story of Mike and Roxy left me feeling like I couldn’t get enough! I literally slapped my knee and said, “Damn!” when I got to the end of the story. I haven’t enjoyed stories like these for a long time, so bless the author and how adorable a story this was for me! A total joyride!
This is the cutest teen romance novel I’ve ever read. I love the imagery it painted in my head, esp with the main characters being Black! You don’t see that too often in sci-fi/fantasy books. We need more Black and Brown characters! Additionally I appreciated how Roxy was curvy, and I resonated with a lot of the thoughts that went through her mind about her anxieties.
2 cute sci-fi YA novellas centering around romance featuring Black heroines. I would have liked WAY MORE paragraph breaks since the big blocks of text made it hard to read, but this was a fun read.
The author pulls together adorable teen characters paired with social commentary in this pair of short stories. After feeling left out of sci fi romance her whole life, the author has written her own stories with Black protagonists who look like her! The stories are simple and sweet and capture what life might be like going to high school on the moon.
4.5 Stars Overall!

Loved the first story, great setting, fun narrator that I instantly connected with. Very light-hearted and a fun read, even though it does touch on serious subject matter. Loved the bit with the rotating garden.

It took a little more to get into the second story, but it definitely held my interest. I found myself wishing there were more technology and world building in this one, as there was for the first story. In spots, I forgot it was in the future on the moon.

Looking forward to more from this author. Definitely worth the great price, and then some!
The first story was really great! The main character was easy to relate to and I liked the overall story line. I was sad it was only a few chapters. I wasn't into the second story as much; the backstory of the main character was somewhat hilarious, but it was nowhere near as good as the first story. The first story was written in the same style as Cosmic Callisto Caprica (which I absolutely loved!), but the second one didn't have the same type of style and I found it a bit tedious to read. Not to say authors aren't allowed to change up their style, it just fell flat for the second story. I do look forward to other stories by this author, especially more of Miss Caprica.
