Verdi's best opera is best on this book. La Traviata
I am more into modern fiction, but I like to read the classics every now and then. This book was good. It's a tragic love story that is typical for what was written during this time period. Interesting to see a seedier side to the Victorian era rather than the virginal tales of woe. This is one of those books that I am glad I read and it's time to move on.
Beautiful prose, but I found the actual story quite monotonous...... However Verdi did turn this story into perhaps the most beautiful opera ever written (La Traviata). This very simple story is ideally suited to an opera.
